What is Capillary Electrophoresis:
Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is used to separate ionic species by their charge and frictional forces.
In traditional electrophoresis, electrically charged molecules move in a conductive liquid medium under the influence of an electric field.
Introduced in the 1960's, the technique of capillary electrophoresis (CE) was designed to separate species based on their size to charge ratio
in the interior of a small capillary filled with an electrolyte, the capillary tube has a high surface to volume ratio
(25-200 um diameter), it radiates heat readily and thus samples do not over
heat during the separation. On-column detection of the migrating molecules is accomplished
by shining a light source through a portion of the tubing called detection
window.
